Working with RockCast Cast Stone

Working with RockCast Architectural Stone

  • Create and provide a full-size field panel if project budget allows. Reading Rock's RockCast field panels allow the architect to verify:
    • Texture and color of the cast stone
    • Fit of adjacent units
    • Quality of construction

  • Submit full-size sample pieces of RockCast architectural stone units previously made by manufacturer using materials from same sources proposed for use in project.

  • Viewing conditions should be equal to approved sample when viewed in direct daylight at 10' between architectural stone units of similar age, subjected to similar weathering conditions.

  • Do not reject architectural stone units with minor chipping resulting from shipping and delivery unless chipping is obvious under direct daylight at 20’ as determined by architect.

  • Clean samples or field panels based on Reading Rock recommendations.

  • Submit copies of all shop drawings to the specifier and owner as required.

  • Do not double stack pallets.

  • Ventilate units under cover to prevent condensation.

  • Prevent contact with dirt, splashing or other damage.

  • Examine units prior to installation, do not install unacceptable units.

  • Protect architectural stone corners and edges during handling and installation to prevent chipping, cracking or other damage.

  • Long units must be handled at the center and both ends simultaneously to prevent cracking.

  • Store architectural stone units on pallets with nonstaining waterproof covers.

  • Do not use pry bars or other equipment in a manner that could damage architectural stone units.
